What do you do with our donated books? Our Kiwanis Charity Bookshop volunteers genuinely appreciate the effort it takes for you to bring in books to be rehomed. Whether they are precious, dusty or unusual, we promise to take care when cleaning and cataloguing them so they may be discovered by new owners. If books are worn or damaged, or getting a bit lonely, we put them in our discount boxes before moving them on to recycling in our recycling program.
What books can be donated? We are always in need of children’s books, which run out quickly. Unfortunately, we cannot take encyclopedias, standard dictionaries or cook books at this time.
What other items do we take? We accept spectacles, bottles and cans for recycling. We also take stickers and bookmarks in good condition. Currently, we do not have room for more CDs or DVDs.
Shop for a good cause
Load up on brownie points, good karma and positive vibes when you shop at our Kiwanis Charity Bookshop because we turn your sales into donations for children’s literacy programs. That’s right, you helps us fund the Bring Up Grades and Terrific Kids awards, and bursaries for struggling families. Visit our Kids’ Literacy page to find out more about the good work we’re doing together.
How affordable are your books? Most of our items are priced between $1 and $3. Some collectables are sold on Facebook Marketplace, but still at a very reasonable price.
Can I search the catalogue online? Yes, you can access our Libib catalogue and perform basic searches by collection and title. Authors are listed where known. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, send us a message via Facebook or Instagram, or come into the shop.
What genres and age groups do you cater for? As many genres as people donate with their books. Our books suit people of all ages, interests and literacy levels. Our current collections include: children’s picture books, children’s non-fiction, junior fiction, young adult fiction, fantasy/sci-fi, classic fiction, Australian fiction, military, religion, philosophy, references, biographies and memoirs, true crime, gardening, cooking, home improvement, plays and writing, medical, self-help, nature, humour and travel.
Opening times and how to find us
We’re open most Fridays and Saturdays from 10am – 1.30pm. Our bookshop is a pop-up situated inside the wonderful Roxy Lane Theatre at 55 Ninth Avenue, Maylands. Occasionally we have stalls at markets.
We’re also on Instagram. Follow us at Kiwanis_Perth_Bookshop for new arrivals, events and changes to our opening times. You can message us on Insta if you have a bookshop query.
